Samak/Sertu Services
LET'S GET THIS CLEAR FIRST, SAMAK VS SERTU

Samak is taken from the Arabic word, الدبغ which means, a method of purifying the skin of animals that are edible or not, that is, by removing blood, flesh and all that is attached to the rotting skin if not discarded, with a sharp tool such as alum or manjakani fruit and such as. See Matla ’al-Badrain (25).

Sertu, on the other hand, is a way to purify oneself from severe faeces (najs Mughallazah), that is, dogs and pigs are washed with water seven times and one of them is ground water, whether the faeces is najis aini or najis hukmi. Whether exposed to clothing, body, or place. See al-Mujtaba fi Syarh Safinah al-Naja (69).
